Center for Children with Special Needs

On Feb. 17, 2016, Success SEPTO is once again pleased to partner with the Center for Children with Special Needs (CCSN) in welcoming Kristen M. Powers, M.S., OTR/L, who will talk on "Sensory Issues in the Classroom and at Home: What Do We Do Now?" Ms. Powers (who is certified in sensory integration) is the Coordinator of Rehabilitative Services at CCSN, and co-director of the feeding clinic to address oral-motor deficits and food selectivity in autistic children.  Then on Mar. 16, 2016, Dr. Mark J. Palmieri, Psy.D., BCBA-D, will talk on "Working with Complex Problem Behaviors." This presentation will review a function-based approach to understanding complex challenging behavior, as well as common intervention procedures (from a needs-focused perspective) and essential features of behavior support plans that reduce interfering behavior and teach new skills. (Please note that the Feb. 17 and Mar 16 presentations have been swapped from what they were originally.)

Special Education: What You Need to Know to Protect Your Child

On May 18, 2016, Attorney Courtney Spencer will discuss the legal requirements of IDEA and how they pertain to your child.  She will review recent cases that impact students with disabilities, and will discuss dispute resolution and the options available to parents who are not in agreement with the decisions made by their school districts. This will be an interactive talk and Atty. Spencer welcomes any questions in advance regarding specific areas that parents are interested in hearing about. (This talk was originally scheduled for Dec. 16, 2015.)

Regular meetings are held at 6:30pm on the third Wednesday of each month in the Community Room at the Willington Public Library. All meetings are open to the public and we welcome new members and visitors. No pre-registration is required for these evening meetings, and there is no charge. The only events for which pre-registration IS required are our Saturday morning workshops.

Our schedule is listed below with detailed information on guest speakers and events to the right. (If you would like to print a flyer for guest speakers, workshops, or events, please click on the event title to view in a new window.)
